WHAT DOES #GIRLBOSS SPOTLIGHT MEAN TO ME?
/Written by: Kabrea Thomas
For those of you who may not know, but my team and I came up with this awesome idea to interview our customers. It wasn't until weeks of vending I realized that our customers are more than just customers. They're women doing their own thing and dominating their dreams and goals. These women are bosses, and I thought why not share the spotlight with them!
I've experienced my share of women putting me down, and making me feel uncomfortable because I am chasing after my dreams. However what if we flipped the script and did the entire opposite. What if instead of knocking her down, we lift her up? What if we supported her? What if we told her she's doing a phenomenal job and shared her business with our friends and family. What if we wanted to see HER WIN?
I know right, it sounds amazing! And that's exactly what the #Girlboss Spotlight Blog means to me. Instead of fighting, we can all help each other get to the top there's more than enough room.
A wise person once said why be in competition when we can help each other. Let's find a way both of our businesses can intertwine. So far we've published a few #GirlBossSpotlight blogs, and there will be more to come! What most of you may not know but I've been able to personally meet each and everyone of the #GirlbossSpotlight features, here's how:
I've met Hadi last year I believe at an event in Brooklyn. We instantly connected as she was drawn to the 'Yours, Fragrance'. Months later she became a scent ambassador, and now she has her own book! Super proud of her, and you guys need to pick up your copy of The Magnetic Bond: The Love Every Woman Deserves. If you've been in a continuous pattern of failed relationships there's a reason why, and Hadi uncovers that in her book.
Carmen is an old college friend. We both were majoring in Fashion Merchandising at the University of Bridgeport and still kept in touch after college. We both have collaborated our businesses together with events like the DIY Jewelry + Fragrance Workshops, and recently we've collaborated on a new product 'ring bombs' which I am super excited about! She's a great entrepreneur, friend and supporter. Be sure to keep up to date with her handcrafted afro-centric inspired jewelry. I'm a lover of some Broken Limits rings!
-Sasha L.
Sasha has the most softest and sweetest souls I've ever met! I met Sasha at an event in Manhattan and we've kept in touch ever since. In fact, we interviewed her over dinner! Each of Sasha's accessories replicate peace, love and a hint of boldness. Be sure to check out her handmade accessories.
I've only known Chante for a little over a year, but it seems like forever. She's the definition of an artist by heart and I am so happy to have met her. We met at an event in the Bronx, and it just so happens we were both speakers discussing our professions. Chante is a talented photographer who goes above and beyond, check out her website to view her photography services.
I met Nyto at a Brooklyn boutique in 2017. There was something about Nyto she was so kind and had such positive energy. The day I met her was actually on my birthday (10/24). After chatting for a bit we decided to exchange social medias, I saw how talented she was and I thought to myself she has to be on the #GirlBossSpotlight. If you guys aren't following this beauty on IG make sure you do!
I aspire to be as bold and as brave as France! I met this beauty at an event in Maryland, and we just so happened to be vending right next to each other. The event was about 4 hours long and we couldn't stop chatting. I am in absolute awe of Edify your Sister's mission. If you're ever in the DMV area make sure you make your way to her annual conferences.
I met Rajni earlier this year, and her face was beat of course! Rajni is such a kind and talented artist. We met at a self-love event and we hit it off instantly. I thought it was interesting how we both were at a self-love event, and both expressed how we're both learning how to love ourselves better. After talking more I realized we're both in the business on enhancing one's self esteem, and I thought we have to connect. If you're ever in need of her services visit her website.
Where to even start...I met Victoria a few years back, and I was a stylists for her show Stylist War. The concept behind the show was a race between two stylist to style someone with a budget of $100, and only one stylist can win. The concept is amazing, and that was one of many first ideas of Victoria's. This #GirlBoss has a creative flow that's non stop and I love how ambitious she is. We later realized we have a few business friends in common and kept each other in the loop. Make sure you guys stay tuned because I know Victoria is always a step ahead.
And just like that I wanted to share with you all these amazing #GirlBosses who took the time out to participate, and for me they're not just #GirlBosses but they're friends I absolutely admire.
