Meet the perfumist
Signature Scents by Hand was founded by Kabrea Thomas in April 2017. We are a Brooklyn born online fragrance shop. Our fragrances are made by hand using natural and vegan friendly ingredients. The start of SSH began in 2016, when Thomas formulated various oils. After 3 months of trial and error and lots of testing, Thomas wore the fragrance out while running errands. That same day she received several compliments on the scent she was wearing, which is now Yours, Fragrance, and the rest was history.
Thomas has a history in fashion and always believed that your fragrance is the invisible accessory to your outfit. With ‘google’ as her number one resource as a self made perfumist she learned all about how to blend top, middle and base notes. In the process of her research she did find that a lot of beauty products, especially perfume contain chemicals that are harmful to the skin. From synthetic musks, to formaldehyde, and much more are linked to cancer when exposed to a higher consumption. With all of that processed information, that is when Thomas decided to create the fragrances by hand with cleaner products. Using ingredients people are familiar with, and don’t cause health concerns when worn on the skin.
After finalizing the Yours, fragrance, Thomas gained the confidence to showcase the fragrance at Baltimore for Baltimore Fashion Week. Yours, fragrance was a popular buy at the event, and many customers asked about oils, colognes, creams and so on. As time progressed a variety of scents, and products were added onto the inventory. While crafting Thomas learned that everyone has their unique way of how they like to smell, as well as how they wear their scents. Being that a scent is sacred, and unique to each character, our goal as a brand is to make scents that make people smell good and feel good.
