#GIRLBOSS SPOTLIGHT: NYTO LOUISSAINT
/Written by: Kabrea Thomas
After working in health care for some time Nyto decided to take matters into her own hands and go after her dreams of being an actress. As the #girlboss that she is Nyto has been working and grinding to pursue her dreams for the past 5 years. A few months ago I met this #girlboss, and knew she had this magnetic energy that I absolutely loved!
Kabrea Thomas:
After working a stable job in health care, what gave you the courage to go after your dreams of being an actress?
Nyto Louissaint:
I always knew that I wanted to be an actress however back then, I was afraid of what family and friends would think and say. Coming from a caribbean family the idea of pursuing a non-academic career sounds crazy. And at the time I cared a lot about what others thought of me. I ended up going into the healthcare field to please my parents but deep down I was dying inside. It took me a great amount of self growth and courage because after all you are your own best friend, so I had to ask myself “what makes Nyto happy?, would you rather pursue a career in acting or stay in healthcare and constantly ask myself year after year what if? So from that I grew the courage to go after acting.
KT:
What were one of your most challenging roles to play? And what was the process like to get into character?
NL:
Haha ask me that same question again in a few years and I will hopefully have plenty of answers for you. But I have yet to play a character that challenged me as an actor ( I am still being hopeful that I do in the near future ). But for the roles that I've had a chance to play no matter how small they may be I take it to heart and give it my all. It's a start to humble beginnings .
KT:
For those out there who are afraid to live out there dreams, are there any tips you would share to make the process easier?
NL:
I will tell them to pray, work hard, grow thick skin and go for it. There will be a lot of NO’s but my father always told me 'the dream will eventually give in” someone will say yes, but in the meantime, keep creating, keep chasing and know to let go of things you have no control over, don’t allow someone’s “No” to be the end of your growth and dreams.
KT:
Do you think confidence has a lot to do with having enough faith in yourself to take that leap?
NL:
Oh yes absolutely. For me like I said before once I gained my confidence I stopped caring about other people’s opinions about me and truly started loving myself. It took a long time especially being a dark skinned girl in this world. But I think once you become one and whole with who you are - taking that leap of faith is easy. You learn to shut off that little negative/doubtful voice inside your head.
KT:
Speaking of confidence, I’m sure as an actress you have to be able to be comfortable in front of a camera. When it comes to bringing in that confidence on camera what are some small things you do to bring out that ‘Sasha Fierce’ in you?
NL:
I take a deep breath and as soon as I hear “rolling or action” I'm no longer Nyto, I become the character. I draw the confidence to the character.
KT:
Recently you purchased one of our best selling scents 'Yours, Fragrance", tell us your experience from the first time you wore the scent?
NL: I love the perfume! The scent is long lasting, and everytime I wear it I get lots of compliments. The first time I wore it was actually at a wedding. The scent worked perfectly with my outfit. Thanks for putting me on to this scent!
KT:
What’s one of your goals that you will accomplish for 2018?
NL:
Oh my Gosh so many goals this year career wise! I've been able to accomplish a few but there's one that I must accomplish this year is getting my driver’s license.
Always remember to never let others put you down, and make the necessary steps to make your dreams into reality. Watch Nyto in action as she merges two of her favorite film, together for her first monologue. (Silence of the Lambs & Basic Instinct).
